    The secret

    The secret

    Two girls discover
    the secret of life
    in a sudden line of
    poetry.

    I who don't know the
    secret wrote
    the line. They
    told me

    (through a third person)
    they had found it
    but not what it was
    not even

what line it was. No doubt
by now, more than a week
    later, they have forgotten
    the secret,

    the line, the name of
    the poem. I love them
    for finding what
    I can't find,

    and for loving me
    for the line I wrote,
    and for forgetting it
    so that

    a thousand times, till death
    finds them, they may
    discover it again, in other
    lines

    in other
    happenings. And for
    wanting to know it,
    for

    assuming there is
    such a secret, yes,
    for that
    most of all.

    El secreto

    Dos niñas descubren
    el secreto de la vida
    en una inesperada línea
    de poesía.

Yo, alguien que no conoce el
    secreto, escribí
    esa línea. Ellas
    me dijeron

(a través de una tercera persona)
    que lo habían encontrado
pero no lo que el secreto era,
    tampoco
cuál era el verso. No hay duda,
    ahora, después de una semana,
    ellas ya han olvidado
    el secreto,
    el verso, el nombre del
    poema. Las amo
    por encontrar aquello
    que yo no puedo encontrar,
    y por amarme
    por ese verso que escribí,
    y por olvidarlo,
    para que
un millar de veces, hasta que la muerte
    las encuentre, ellas puedan
descubrir el secreto de nuevo, en otros
    versos
    en otros
    sucesos. Y porque
    desean conocerlo,
    por
    asumir que ese
    secreto existe, sí,
    sobre todo
    por eso, las amo.
